Your log is yours
Every trip, catch, spot, photo, and note you record in Bassai belongs to you. Bassai Inc. does not claim any ownership interest, license, or publication right in your personal log. You are free to export, edit, copy, or delete your data at any time from inside the app.
What you're getting
Bassai Inc. grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the Bassai iOS app on devices you control. The license exists to let you log your own fishing trips. It doesn't include the right to redistribute the app, reverse-engineer it, or wrap its functionality inside another product.
Acceptable use
Bassai is built on trust between a small number of people and a small number of servers. Help us keep it that way.
- Don't scrape, rate-abuse, or flood the enrichment or Ask Hank endpoints.
- Don't attempt to bypass the on-device privacy gates — every toggle is there for a reason.
- Don't re-upload other people's photos into your log as if they were your catches.
- Don't use Bassai to stalk, harass, or trespass. The privacy architecture protects anglers from each other, not predators from the law.
If we detect abuse of our servers (Chat with Hank or analytics) we may rate-limit or revoke access from the associated device without notice. The app itself — the logbook — continues to work offline.
Chat with Hank — what it is, and isn't
Hank is the AI persona inside Bassai. When you use Chat with Hank, Bassai may send your message, prior Hank chat context, saved Hank profile, and visible trip or catch details to Google's Gemini model via our proxy. Hank's answers are generated probability — not professional advice, not guaranteed accurate, not a substitute for local knowledge. Check what Hank tells you against your own experience on the water.
The specific data that leaves the device for this feature is listed in our Privacy Policy. Chat with Hank is toggleable in Settings.
Payments
Bassai is free to download and use. Bassai Plus is an optional auto-renewing subscription sold through Apple's App Store: $9.99 per month or $69.99 per year. App Store prices may vary by region, and the price Apple shows you at the moment of purchase controls. Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase. The subscription renews automatically — your Apple Account is charged within 24 hours before each period ends — unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends. You can manage or cancel anytime in the App Store (your Apple Account → Subscriptions) or from Bassai's Settings, and you can restore a previous purchase with Restore Purchase on the Bassai Plus screen. Bassai Plus unlocks Live Trip mode, Chat with Hank, the Conditions Timeline, and the deeper Stats pattern and evidence views; logging trips and catches stays free. Purchases and any refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's terms.
Data-source disclaimers
Bassai enriches catches using public scientific APIs run by third parties: Open-Meteo, OpenStreetMap (Nominatim), the U.S. Geological Survey, and NOAA Tides & Currents. These services may be temporarily unavailable, return incomplete data, or retire endpoints. We do our best to degrade gracefully, but Bassai cannot guarantee that every trip will be enriched with every datum.
Warranty disclaimer
The app is provided as is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied — including, without limitation, the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Bassai does not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free from defects, or that enrichment data will be complete or accurate at any given time.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Bassai Inc. and its contributors will not be liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or exemplary damages arising out of or in connection with your use of the app — including, without limitation, lost catches, missed weather windows, boating mishaps, or stolen spots. The total liability of Bassai Inc. for any claim arising out of these terms is limited to the amount you paid Bassai Inc. for the app during the twelve months preceding the claim, or, if you paid nothing, USD $10.
Termination
You can stop using Bassai at any time — delete the app and the license ends. We may suspend or terminate access to the server-side features (Chat with Hank, analytics) if we reasonably believe you're abusing them or if we're required to by law. The logbook itself lives on your device and is not affected.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that materially affects your rights or obligations, we'll update the Effective date above and surface the change inside the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Bassai after a material change means you accept the new terms; if you don't, stop using the app.
Governing law & disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Tennessee, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. For any dispute that can't be resolved by writing to hi@bassai.com, you and Bassai Inc. agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts sitting in Shelby County, Tennessee.
Individual claims only. You and Bassai Inc. agree that any dispute arising out of or relating to these terms or the app will be brought solely on an individual basis. Neither party may bring or participate in a class, consolidated, collective, mass, or representative action against the other. If a court decides that applicable law prevents enforcement of this restriction as to a particular claim, that claim (and only that claim) will be severed and may proceed in court; the rest of this section remains in force.
Jury trial waiver. To the fullest extent permitted by law, you and Bassai Inc. each waive the right to a trial by jury in any action arising out of or relating to these terms or the app.
